For a small company such as mine employing in-house graphic designers is not always an economically viable option.
Currently I outsource work to local graphic design companies, for high end brochure design, corporate and website design I use Titman Firth Graphic Design. For lower end work I have always either tried to complete it myself or employed smaller firms with varying degrees of success and quality.
I recently came across SitePoint Contests. Here you can set a fixed price for a project, and designers compete by entering designs, you can guide entrants and help them achieve the results that you want. At the end of the contest you pick the design that suits you best.
I have just completed my first design contest, the quality of the work submitted was outstanding and I was left with a difficult tasking in choosing the ultimate winner. In this instance the winner was “EvanteS” the end result can be seen on DirectoryMonsters.com
SitePoint contests are an extremely economic method of sourcing quality designs. I shall certainly be running further contests in the future, and the quality and range of designs may put of the day that I look to employ a full-time in-house designer for quite some time.
