How To Increase Your Website Stickiness

Feb 262007

The longer people stay on your website browsing different pages, the greater is the chance that they’ll do business with you. On an average people on the Internet leave a website within the first minute of reaching it. Unless there is something compelling to make them explore further, they are simply going to click away to another website.

Creating a “sticky” website basically involves keeping the visitors on your website for as long as possible. Convince them that you have what they are looking for and declare it on your website as soon as possible. Apart from that, you can use the following suggestions to keep your website sticky:

Create interesting headlines

The headlines immediately grab attention because they are bigger than the rest of the text. Say the most interesting things through your headlines. But don’t be deceptive — deceptive headlines will make sure your visitors never return to your website.

Create pleasant, unobtrusive design

Create the design of your website keeping your audience in mind. Make the experience of viewing pages on your website pleasant. Don’t try to make everybody happy — you cannot. Just make sure all the relevant information is easily accessible, within one or two clicks and keep your navigation user-friendly.

Create new content continuously

If you want them to come again and again, keep creating interesting, compelling content. When they come, they should always find something new and this will encourage them to come back and check out your website.

Make your content scannable

Big chunks of text scares away most of the visitors. Not that they are literally-challenged, it’s just that reading lots of text on most of the computer screens is not easy — it strains the eyes. So people quickly want to know whether you have what they are looking for or not. If not, they should better spend time looking further. You can make your content scannable by creating shorter paragraphs, making ample use of headlines and bulleted lists, and eliminating all the unnecessary text.

There are many other factors that can influence the stickiness of your website but the suggestions mentioned above can take you a long way. Do share your own thoughts on this.

Use Headlines to Boost Your SEO

Feb 182007

published by Gary in On Page SEO | SEO | Wordpress with No comments

The search engines love headlines — those wise nuggets of text you enclose within the <h1>, <h2> tags. No, it’s not some fetish about large texts, it’s just that the headlines are supposed to make the text on your web pages scannable, and scannable text, if written well, gives a fair indication of what your […]

A list of ping services (I currently only use the WP default one)

Most Bloggers Are Lazy?

Feb 52007

published by Gary in Blogging | General with 2 comments

Lorelle at BlogHerald ponders whether bloggers are lazy in general. She deduces this because she finds the same old topics being discussed, OK, not even discussed, but referenced by scores of blogs, without individual contributions.
I don’t think there is something irksome in it, as long as posts are not plagiarized. Let’s be frank, some bloggers […]
