Excellent article, great insights into local seo. The idea is focus gloabl with local presence. More often than not , in order to get a global footprint, we ignore the local print and this is more often than not an error which impacts the search engine rankings.

We deal with around 80 UK clients and 30 clients in australia for whom we have to target google.co.uk and google.com.au respectively
Its relatively easier to do it as compared to .com but one thing you missed is inclusion of the site in google and yahoo locals which can also help in the local SE rankings

I wonder, how google and yahoo value inbound links from very different language regions. Having logal business in Germany shouldn’t be promoted by Chinese inbound links I suppose?
