What if Google Had to Design For Google?

When the most important thing is ‘getting indexed’ it is increasingly difficult for web site designers to offer the simple, uncluttered user experience they’d like to. Reminiscent of the famed what if Microsoft designed the iPod box here is a humorous look at what would happen to that famed, clean, uncluttered look if Google had to design for the Google Search Engine.”
I really appreciate the tongue-in-cheek humor here. That said, at least a couple of years ago we found ourselves defining website structures according to the latest Google edicts, and many sites now appear to adopt a Google first, design later policy. Is that a good thing I wonder?

Really funny article. It’s so true (and unfair) that Google does not have to play by their own rules. Yahoo and MSN shld get their act together and take advantage of the rising tide of unhappiness
I think it’s pretty funny, and I also think the Google first mindset is a shame. Companies like Yahoo! and MSN aren’t going to sit on their asses forever. They might do it for a little bit longer, but sooner or later they’re going to start chipping away at Google’s market share.
When it finally gets to the point where the 3 giants are more or less equal, it’s not going to be the Googlebitches who are laughing.
