Domain Name Disaster
Although the post is really old I just ran into it last last night and I really really felt the need to share it. Independent sources came up with a list of top ten worst company domain names ever and here’s a sample of what they came up with…
Experts Exchange - www.expertsexchange.com - Used to be an resource site for programmers.
Mole Station Native Plant Nursery - www.molestationnursery.com - Apparently the nursery realised the problem and migrated to www.molerivernursery.com.
As you can see from the two examples the list really is hilarious. Even weirder is that the list has been around for a couple of years but many of the site still haven’t migrated to a more suitable domain. Either it’s a gross oversight (no one gifted with word games in the company?) or they realizes it’s good link bait.
Lesson for all of us: Make sure you’ve considered all the different ways the proposed domain can be read before registering it and putting up a client’s site!

I have always love this list — and I always wondered if it’s really an oversight, or like you say, cunning insight into link bait. With everyone trying to get “viral” and get all link baity, what better way than by a weird and slightly odd domain name?
D Web - Haha. I can already imagine the horror of whoever came up with the domain for the church (First Cumming Methodist Church) felt when church members or whoever it was made them realise how it all sounded! No wonder they took the site is down.
