Although I don't agree with the comment above, that .edu and .gov links naturally give more link juice because links are hard to get. I do believe Matt C and Google have said specific domain extensions do not pass on any extra juice or authority. You will normally get more from a .edu or .gov because they generally have high quality links pointing into them, thus making them authoritiy sites - but as far as I am aware it is nothing to do with the actual domain extension.
