Some SEO folks, when talking about keyword stuffing, pertain to the page as being over optimised. But is there really such a thing as over optimisation? I was mulling this over and realised that the term is contradictory. After all anything that is less or more than it should be simply isn’t optimised. Just for the heck of it I looked up the meaning of the word optimized. According to Dictionary.com to optimise anything means…
- to make as effective, perfect, or useful as possible.
- to make the best of.
- Computers. to write or rewrite (the instructions in a program) so as to maximize efficiency and speed in retrieval, storage, or execution.
In short you really can’t over optimise anything because then it simply won’t be perfect nor effective. In SEO when you make mistakes and go overboard (i.e. keyword stuffing) then it isn’t called optimisation any more - it’s called spamming. So out with the word over optimised please!

Chris of Rillz Magazine wrote an interesting post on a Wordpress quirk that isn’t doing anything for your SEO. The ever helpful Wordpress uses the phrase “Read more” or “Continue reading” automatically at the end of post excerpts. This is useful since you want your readers to know that they have something more to read [...]

What I have noticed about SEO bloggers and speakers (which are usually the same bunch of people, although only the best of the SEO bloggers are invited as speakers) is that while their posts and talks are really informative and useful you are bound to find out even more in depth information if you actually [...]

For at least the last five years the UK web design industry has been buoyant, but are there signs of an imminent decline, or has it already started?
I have an involvement it two small independent web design agencies, so I think I have a feel for the volume of new enquiries/new business interest that there [...]

One of the most difficult aspect of being an SEO is relating to clients. Optimising a website and getting visible results is doable only if…
The website has good content or at least the potential have good content; and
The client cooperates.
Website owners that have no real knowledge of SEO sometimes make the mistake of either dismissing [...]

I’ve been stressing out the past few days racking my brains for my perfect first entry here on PhoenixRealm. I was thinking of posting some philosophical piece about SEO, or a short but very informative piece on the basics of SEO, or even a plain introduction of myself. Anyway I ended up deciding to go [...]

Back in July 2007 I posted “Scraping - How can I stop scrapers?” Joost had noticed that content on Phoenixrealm was being scraped and kindly let me know.
Joost has recently released “RSS Footer” a Wordpress plugin that gets the scraper working for you.

I have read that it may be possible to sabotage a competitor site by creating numerous links from clearly spam sites to competitor sites. I have never seen evidence of this until today.
I was picking over the latest stats for one of my clients when I noticed that the top referrals from external sites all [...]
